Viji Thampi
Viji Thampi started his film career as Balachandra Menon’s Assistant. In 1988 he became an independent Director with the film David, David, Mr. David. Later he directed 28 films including Witness, Sooryamanasam, Simhavalan Menon, Avittam Thirunal Arogya Sreeman, Sathyameva Jayathe, Krithyam and Nadodimannan. He has acted in 18 films some of which were directed by him.
Apart from films, Viji Thampi directed seven television serials. They are Black and White (Asianet), Annie (Tele-cinema in Kairali TV), Amma (Tele-cinema in Amrita TV), Sree Krishna Leela (Asianet), Mahathma Gandhi Colony (Asianet), Devimahathmyam (Asianet) and Ayyappa Saranam (Amrita TV). He acted in one television serial titled “Mask”. He was a judge in Amrita TV’s Shreshtabharatham – Mahabharatha programme.
Besides being a director and film actor, Viji Thampi is a social activist. He is a voracious reader, orator and able administrator.
Thampi is a member of the Thiruvananthapuram regional board of the Central Board of Film Certification. In 2021 Thampi was appointed as the Kerala State President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and he assumed office on 18th July, 2021.
